Senior Project Links

What is the theme of the group project? What was your part in the project? What was the hardest part of creating the Senior Project? What was the easiest?

The theme of our group project is time travel, bringing back photos from last year to now and condensing two years of memories into three minutes. I helped consolidate photos and videos as well as assisted in finding appropriate music to go with the video. The hardest part of the senior project was deciding what to do in terms of time and resources. The easiest part was finding the photos as we have a Facebook Page for the school and most of the photos are on there, and I took a lot of photos throughout the years on my phone.

Senior Farewell Project

1. Who is in your group? Caitlin, Abby, Dorsa, and Hannah are in the group.
2. Our project is a lip dub that will take place at Prom, creating a music video with the footage we capture. We will also have a few students saying good bye to the teachers and RCHS.
3. I am contributing by filming and taking part in the video by being either a bystander or in front of the camera, singing a piece of the song.

Capstone Presentations

I had my info graphic on one side of my table as well as a binder that had my exploratory essay and final capstone essay. I also had two jars with monopoly money inside to visually illustrate the money one would spend on ACTIVE SATISFACTION, my end product, versus traditional physical therapy. I also had my laptop with the leapmotion controller behind a TV monitor to safely display my end product without having people crowd around and so I could present easily.

My Capstone presentation started with how I personally experienced the financial burden of having to pay for physical therapy after my sister broke her ankle. I then moved onto my research and the other problems associated with traditional physical therapy. I wanted to find a cheaper alternative and came to my end product of ACTIVE SATISFACTION, which is a leapmotion video game that allows children from low income families to receive physical therapy by flying a rocketship.

My experience was rather pleasant. People were very interested in my presentation, and a lot of people came by on the recommendation of others that have already seen my presentation. Although I had to wait quite a while, my judges were very thoroughly and asked appropriate questions. The hardest part of my presentation was definitely setup because we had to wait a while before we knew which table was ours and I had to bring in two extension cords and my monitor. The most fun was seeing people's reaction towards my capstone. It made me feel like I did a really nice job. Capstone was not as bad as I thought it would be.

Infographic Poster

  1. My Inforgraphic poster relates to my Capstone Project as it presents a visual and colorful summary of my essay, showing the problem, solution, and end product in a condensed state.
  2. I did not really have to do more research for my poster other than researching how to create certain graphics.
  3. The hardest thing about creating my poster was how I wanted to lay out the information and what information should I include on it.
  4. The easiest thing about creating my poster was copy and pasting the information in after I decided.
  5. I did not create my poster during Winter Term; however, I used a graphic I made during Winter Term and some aspects like which information to include and certain facts.
  6. I believe my poster is done for the most part other than little tweaks.

PSA for Capstone Project Concept

How did you address your Statement of Intent in your PSA?

My statement of intent is to create awareness of the financial burdens families are going through and how the additional expenses of medical bills and, specifically, physical therapy can have a stressful effect upon these families. I also talked about the harder access to physical therapy services.

Did you meet the other Requirements?

30 - 55 seconds (YES)
Animated text (YES)
Music or voice-over (YES)

What would you do differently?
I would most likely have planned out my PSA better in what concepts I wanted to be sure to get to the audience. I would also have like to create my graphics, specifically, my character, better.

What was the easiest and hardest part about producing your video?

The easiest part of the PSA is creating the texts. The hardest part was timing all of the animations and having the text, mouth, and movements correlate with each other.

Any other comments about creating your PSA?

It was a fun learning experience and I am motivated to learn more.

Capstone Blog Post #2: PSA Intent

"How to write a public service announcement"
Comments: This article helped clarify what a PSA is. It helped to know that a PSA is like a persuasive commercial that promotes a non-profit organization while raising awareness of that organization and what it does within the community. Planning a PSA follows the same steps of writing a regular commercial: message, script, music, etc. It also takes into consideration the target audience and utilizes emotions to urge the audience to take a specific action.

PSA #1:
No Kid Hungry PSA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RUYkzJio24
This PSA conveys a serious topic about children hunger while keeping a light tone that exudes positivism and hope by the music in the background and strong tone of the voice over. The film itself had children holding up signs while the narrator says the words, "Don't ignore the signs." At the end of the PSA, a course of action is suggested along with a screen displaying information about the nokidhungry organization and foodnetwork partnership. It is effective in using children in the video that may strengthen the message;however, personally, it does not leave a lasting impression.

PSA #2:
It's On Us PSA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNMZo31LziM
This PSA brings awareness to sexual assault as well as challenging the audience to do their part in stopping sexual assault from happening. The serious tone of the music and voices match the seriousness of the message. With the use of famous faces to further sponsor this video, it intrigues audience members to pay closer attention. As mentioned before, PSAs are similar to commercials and can effectively use the same persuasive methods commercials use.

My PSA:
  • What are the key points you will emphasis?
The key points I'd like to emphasis are the financial struggles of the families and the additional hardships of affording healthcare needed as well as effectively using technology as a solution for this issue.
  • What visuals and audio are appropriate?
With the concept of gaming as a solution, I'd imagine the tone of the PSA to be lighter and less somber, mimicking the tone of the first PSA example I researched. Visually, I'd like a more simplistic scene for the audience to truly focus on my message rather than getting lost in what's on the screen.
  • What type of PSA you will use?
My PSA would be raising awareness of the financial struggles of today's economies for lower class familes as well as the possibility of using technology and gaming as a solution for many more pressing issues.
  • Outline of proposed structure.
Text overs, no voices, music.
Simplistic visuals, create own graphics
Start with economic facts, go into problem with physical therapy, go into solution with gaming

Blog Entry #1: Capstone Statement of Intent

a) The goals of this project is to bring awareness to and attempt to resolve the insufficient resources allocated towards providing the necessary physical therapy rehabilitation programs to families with low incomes.

b) This issue is important because it affects thousands of struggling families in the United State's economy and allows for advances to a efficient technological age. Unplanned incidents occur and you never know what situation you could be in. By being able to afford physical therapy that is needed to get better, families can focus on other aspects of their lives.

c) Aiming towards becoming a video game developer, I am needed to solve different problems with the use of my knowledge and resources available. Personally having experienced the hardships of supporting a family member through physical therapy needed to recover from a sport's injury, I found a problem that needed solving.

d) My project gives back to a community often overlooked. If I am successful in at least getting on the right track to solving my identified issue, families can easily access physical therapy rehabilitation programs at a lower cost as well as provide precedent to making other treatments available in a home setting.
